Sunday Igboho may be killed if released now – Lawyer One of the lawyers to Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Igboho, Olusegun Falola, has noted that the activist may be killed if the Beninese court releases him at this moment. Falola warned that there is still tension between the federal government of Nigeria and the Benin Republic government. According to reports, the comedian crashed his white Lexus Salon car almost to the point of no repair. He however escaped the auto crash with few bruises on the hand and the head. The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, on Friday, urged state governors to sign the death warrants of the 3,008 condemned criminals waiting for execution, especially those whose appeals had been exhausted and were not mounting challenges to their convictions, as part of measures to decongest prisons nationwide. Aregbesola, who spoke at the inaugurating of the Osun State Command headquarters complex of the Nigeria Correctional Service in Osogbo, stressed the need to bring to closure the cases involving the inmates. The minister enumerated three avenues to decongest prisons, saying governors could accelerate the wheel of justice, as many inmates had been in custody for a period longer than the maximum sentence their alleged offences carry, which he described as a miscarriage of justice. Aregbesola also urged states to share in the burden of decongesting custodial facilities by constructing holding centres, adding that all the states needed to do was to build the facilitie

According to a wireless communication seen by Peoples Gazette, Abbas Fatai, a military officer of the 16 Brigade in Yenagoa, was shot dead by suspected members of the Icelanders cult group. According to preliminary army investigations, Mr Fatai was shot dead at Igbogene Junction in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, where he resided, at around 09:12 p.m. on July 22. The officer was ambushed and shot by a cult lead by a man named Confidence, who was then brought to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. “Suspected members of Icelanders cult group led by one Mr Confidence attacked and shot 08NA/61/2298 CPL Abbas Fatai of 16 Brigade at Igbogene Junction in Yenagoa LGA of Bayelsa State,” the message read in part.
